Grand Bahama recently lost a giant of a man—Keith G. Cooper, affectionately known as the Stingray Whisperer.

In 2010, inspired by his deep love and concern for the environment, Keith created West End Ecology Tours to offer visitors an affordable way to experience Grand Bahama’s natural beauty. One of its most beloved adventures was the Stingray Experience.

For years, Keith took thousands of visitors to Sandy Cay, off the southern shore of Grand Bahama, to meet and feed the stingrays. He often spoke of the special bond he shared with them—particularly one favourite named Big Momma, pictured with him above.

Shortly before his passing, Keith was excited about a new restaurant and bar he was preparing to open in West End, the community he called home.

A memorial service was held for Keith on September 3. He will be greatly missed—and perhaps the stingrays will miss their old friend too.
