How Sissel Mosvold-Johnson found healing through art.
In 2019 Hurricane Dorian devastated the lives of so many people but perhaps none more so than Sissel Mosvold-Johnson and her husband George whose family has owned Ol’ Freetown Farm for many years. They suffered horrendous trauma as co-workers and beloved animals lost their lives during the storm which raged for days. The farm was left in ruins. Sissel and George had to totally rebuild their lives.

Born and raised in Grand Bahama, Sissel had to find a way to cope with the unbelievable loss and heartache. She eventually found solace in painting, using what was around her in nature as inspiration. Using a meditative dot technique and traditional brushwork she transformed shells, rocks, sea biscuits and driftwood into stunning works of art.
Finding Solace in Art

Grand Bahama’s Art Festival, Art Lucaya, has described her work this way:
“There’s a quiet patience in Sissel Johnson’s work, each dot, each detail placed with intention. Inspired by the textures of the sea and the stillness found in nature, her pieces feel like a slow exhale.”

What began as art therapy soon blossomed into a full-time artistic practice and a successful business:
Peace of My Heart Art.
Sissel remains grateful every day for the healing that art has brought her. “Seven years ago I could not have imagined the path I would be on. But here I am, with new purpose and new dreams.”
